In Hillsboro, in a rare playoff matchup between two longtime district rivals, Abbott used four touchdown runs from Dillon Beims to march over Aquilla and forward in the playoffs.

Abbott (10-1) averaged better than 13 yards per play, keeping the Cougar defense on its heels. Beims piled up 151 yards on 11 carries, scoring on runs of 20, 43, 15 and 3 yards. Jamal Johnson added the clinching mercy-rule touchdown on a 24-yard scamper.

Abbott moves on to face Savoy (6-5) in the Class 1A Region IV final next week, while Aquilla ends its season at 7-4.

Johnson finished with 99 yards rushing for the Panthers. Aquilla’s brilliant Payton Casarez, a multiple-time Super Centex standout, ended his career with 59 yards rushing.
