BURNET — One last air strike kept La Vega’s perfect season alive.
Jamal Williams hooked up with Jamun Guilford on a 63-yard touchdown pass with 1:16 to play, sending the Pirates to a 32-25 win over Burnet Friday night. With the win, La Vega (9-0, 4-0) wrapped up no less than a share of the District 13-4A championship and the district’s top playoff seed.
The Pirates had to battle back to keep the winning streak going. Burnet (5-4, 1-3) built a 22-7 lead in the second quarter, using a couple of touchdown passes from Austin Moore and a safety from its defense to take control.
But La Vega got a TD run from Ke’moche Hobbs to pull to within 22-15 by the half, and then got the big play from Guilford late to escape.
