Every student has the potential to achieve great things when they have the right support behind them. Communities in Schools (CIS) of the Heart of Texas helps turn that potential into progress by connecting students with trusted mentors, meaningful resources and opportunities that help them reach their goals. We’re proud to partner with CIS as a United Way Designated Agency and support their commitment to helping students thrive.
For one high school senior, graduating early was more than a milestone; it was the first step toward a future in public service.
Through our Horizon’s program, our CIS team recognized his passion for serving others and his interest in becoming a firefighter. Seeing an opportunity to help him turn that goal into reality, the team connected him with the Fire Academy Program at McLennan Community College during his senior year.
With guidance and support throughout the application process, he earned his spot in the program and is preparing to begin classes this fall.
This achievement represents more than an early high school graduation. It shows what’s possible when students have access to encouragement, resources and trusted support systems that help them see and reach their potential.
Through early connections and continued guidance, our CIS team helped him take the next step toward a meaningful career and a future built around serving his community.
