COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M men's tennis head coach Steve Denton added Moldovan Davis Cup competitor Ilia Snitari to the Aggies' 2026-27 roster.
Snitari, from Kishinev, Moldova, has been a member of his country's Davis Cup squad since 2021, compiling a 15-4 combined record with the team (10-2 in singles and 5-2 in doubles). In 2025, Snitari was 5-1 in singles with wins over El Salvador, Armenia, Malta, North Macedonia and Latvia while helping Moldova to team wins over Armenia and Malta.
"We're thrilled to welcome Ilia to Texas A&M," Denton said. "He's a proven competitor and his resume speaks for itself with multiple conference player of the year honors and All-America recognition. He also has a lot of high-leverage experience in Davis Cup that will be an asset for the Aggies."
He earned singles All-America honors after advancing to the round of 16 at the 2025 NCAA Championships with wins over Shu Matsuoka of Arizona State and Eli Stephenson of Kentucky before falling to Michigan State's Ozan Baris. He finished 2026 ranked No. 78 in the ITA singles rankings while compiling a 28-3 record and achieved his career-high rank of No. 35 after compiling a 12-1 fall worksheet.
In two seasons at UNLV, Snitari was named Mountain West Player of the Year twice and he was the first player ever to earn MWC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season in 2024-25. As a freshman, Snitari did not see his first action of the season until early March and finished his first collegiate campaign with a perfect 8-0 record.
Snitari has achieved career-high ATP ranks of No. 479 in singles (2022) and No. 332 in doubles (2023). Snitari has won four singles and 12 doubles ITF titles. He is currently the No. 2 Moldovan player.
